Kyrgyz biathletes at a summer roller ski training camp in Cholpon-Ata
Training camp · Cholpon-Ata, July 2025

How to start

  1. 1

    Call the federation

Ring the office or write by email. We will tell you which coach and group fits the athlete’s age and where they train.

  2. 2

    Come to a trial training

The first sessions are about skiing, running and general fitness. No special equipment is needed yet.

  3. 3

Start shooting with an air rifle

Shooting starts with air rifles under a coach’s supervision. Small-bore rifles come later, only on the range.

  4. 4

    Race

School and national competitions first, then for the strongest athletes Asian and IBU youth events.

What is biathlon

Biathlon combines cross-country skiing with rifle shooting. Athletes ski a loop, stop at the range, fire five shots lying down (prone) or standing, and ski on.

Each shot is at a target 50 metres away: 45 mm wide prone, 115 mm standing. Every miss costs time — a 150 m penalty loop in most races, or a time penalty in the individual race.

In summer the same sport is done on roller skis or running, so training never stops.

One stage: five targets. Four hits, one miss.
